Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Epic Series (1978) - I was about seven years old when Galactica came out, and I remember fondly watching the series which I thought went on for years. It turns out that it barely lasted one season! (24 hours of episodes) and they're all in this boxed set in a big Cylon-head box with a lenticular red eye. The really cool parts of this digitally remastered set are all the deleted scenes and alternate takes included in the DVDs, which really help flesh out the story. For the time, the special effects are surprisingly good (although often repeated), and many of the storylines still hold up well today. All the episodes are in their original broadcast order, and will bring back lots of memories for kids of the baby-boomers! Get your set on: DVD,
Battlestar Galactica (2003 Miniseries) - This 2003 Sci-Fi Channel re-interpretation of the original script makes the Cylons a creation of humans gone amuck. The new Cylons are not only metal robots bent on destruction, but also humanoid replicas, so you never know who's a friend and who's a 'bot. It's got lots of new special effects, and a new twist on the old storyline. Grab your copy on DVD

Complete Black Adder - Black Adder is just about the funniest thing to ever come out of England! If you like Rowan Atkinson in Mr. Bean then you'll love him in Black Adder (although it's a bit more sophisticated). Follow Black Adder through his historical muck-ups starting with a parody of Macbeth, and his time period in series I, and through the ages with Queenie (Queen Elizabeth I) in series II, then Edmund (Black Adder) is in the service of the Prince of Wales - that flatulent imbecile - who later becomes King George IV, suffering under this reign of stupidity in series III. And in series IV, Black Adder "Goes Forth" as a captain in WWI continually trying to avoid the front line and the "Big Push" by those insane generals who thought running into machine gun fire was good sport. Series V is brand-new, and I'm still waiting to see it (can't wait!) I can't recommend this series enough! Hold on to your chair while watching- I won't be responsible for damage due to violent fits of laughing while you watch! Grab the entire set (Now includes V!) on VHS, and now on DVD, or !

Black Adder's Christmas Carol - In this sendup of the Charles Dickens classic, Scrooge is a cheery kind of guy until the Spirit of Christmas accidentally shows him the error of his ways. Incredibly hilarious! Grab it on VHS!
Family Guy - One of the funniest shows on TV (or off for that matter) as it was canned for being to contravercial, then brought back in 2005 with its own spin-off because FOX realized DVD sales were through-the-roof and they canned a hit (sound familiar?) This even more dysfunctional family than the Simpsons has another clueless father, a stay-at-home mother, and three kids. The kids are: their daughter Meg (a teen drama queen who's constantly embarrassed by her family.) Chris (a beefy, clueless-as-his-father13-year-old who wouldn't hurt a fly...unless it landed on his hot dog.) And Stewie, the megalomaniacal 1-year-old bent on matricide and world domination who claims "Victory is mine!" at any opportune moment. And Brian, the sarcastic dog with a wit as dry as the martinis he drinks. Warning: do not drink yourself while watching this show as you will have a tendancy to blow it out your noze as you have sudden and uncontrolable fits of laughing.

Farscape - The best new Sci-Fi series out there, period! John Crichton flies his experimental ship, and slingshots himself around the earth, opening up a wormhole in the process. He's shot across the galaxy, who knows where, and ends up in the middle of a shooting match. He's taken aboard a fleeing (and living) prison ship whose crew of felons he has to befriend or else be alone without help in the far reaches of the galaxy. Excellent scripts and effects, with wonderful creatures by Jim Henson's puppeteers! I can't imagine a Sci-Fi fan who wouldn't love it! Buy entire season or groups of episodes below.

*New* Farscape - The Peacekeeper Wars (2004) - This mini-series wraps up the Farscape saga after the SciFi channel so rudely cancelled the series (because they were being very cheap and didn't want to pay for beautiful sets and animatronics even though this series was very highly and critically acclaimed.) Not only did they stab us in the back by ending the series, but they ended it with a cliffhanger as the last episode! After a year of "Save Farscape" campaigns, we finally got some closure. An excellent end to the series with potential for more, however I was disappointed with the editing since they had to cram a whole season into four hours, so don't expect the camera to linger too long on any one scene. The least they could have done is a "Director's cut" DVD with a slower pace and extra scenes... This series is well worth the money regardless, just keep complaining to the SciFi Channel ;-) - Cheap frelling bastads! Get the Peacekeeper Wars on DVD

**NEW** Frank Herbert's Dune (TV Mini-Series) (2000) - This well done Sci-Fi Channel mini-series fills in many gaps the movie left hanging. At five hours long, it stays much closer to the book- filling out the characters, including the Emperor's daughter and Feyd, who are barely seen in the movie. The connections between the characters are also embellished, as with the rest of those little details the movie left out (You mean Mua'dib actually had a child by Chani?) It still can't beat reading the book, but it did a much better job than David Lynch's 1984 movie! Grab it on VHS or DVD.
Fawlty Towers - The Complete Set - I know I've said that many of my selections are funny, but this series takes to cake! John Cleese is Basil Fawlty, and his wife Sybil (my little commandant) is played by Prunella Scales. They run a small hotel, and being in to service industry (and married to each other) leaves plenty of room for satire. Cleese is constantly at war with the rest of the world - well... mostly his wife. He's a very neurotic character partly because things just never go right for him, and because his wife is always nagging him to get things done while she's chatting with the guests (And laughing like a mule). By the end of each episode, the whole place is usually going down the tubes, and Basil's heading to the loony bin. If you ever watch one TV series in your life, this should be it! I've got the whole set - Grab it on DVD, , VHS Fawlty Towers - The Complete Set, , or grab the individual tapes- 3 episodes each! Vol. 1- Germans, Vol 02:Psychiatrist, Vol 03:Kipper and Corps, and Vol 04:Basil the Rat .
Also, don't forget Complete Fawlty Towers (Paperback) - all the scripts from the series written by John Cleese. Catch all those wonderful lines the laughter stepped on, or Manuel muffed up :-).
Futurama - Created by the Simpson's Matt Groening, Futurama is set in the year 3000 when Fry wakes up from a thousand-year cryo-freeze mishap. He searches for relatives, and finds Professor Farnsworth. his great, great, great... etc. nephew who runs a space delivery service, not unlike the pizza delivery job Fry had before his big freeze :-). Along with a one-eyed Leela (voiced by Married with Children's Katey Sagal), the alcoholic robot Bender, and a strange bunch of co-workers, they go on deliveries accross the cosmos, and never fail to get into plenty of trouble along the way. From episode one this series is funny all the way through. It's too bad Fox kept changing the time slot making it impossible get the ratings it deserved. Had they run it after the Simpsons like they should of, it would still be in-production today! Get Season 1 on DVD, , Season 2 on DVD, , Season 3 on DVD , and Season 4 on DVD

The Making of the Hitchhiker's Guide BBC series on VHS!- It's almost as funny as the genuine article! And where did all those huge ship interiors come from? You'll be amazed!) it's a must-have for any Hitchhiker's fan! Buy
The Salmon of Doubt : Hitchhiking the Galaxy One Last Time - Douglas Adams' final literary work was salvaged from files on 4 different computers, papers and notes that he left around the planet before his improbable and untimely death from a heart attack at the age of 49. I've been missing him deeply, but it heartens me to know I'll be able to have one more laugh at his expense. This book comes out soon, so Pre-Order the Hardcover while you still can.
Jeeves & Wooster- This is a hilarious British series about a butler (Jeeves) and his dim-witted employer (Wooster) and their misadventures as the brains behind the operation manipulates his employer into (and out of) very sticky situations. It stars Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry of Blackadder fame, and proves these two are a match for any other comic force out of Britain! Mystery Science Theater 3000 - You've seen some really bad Sci-Fi movies out there. I know you have. Now there's a way to enjoy them! If you haven't seen MST3K already on the SciFi Channel, you take a guy and several robots, shoot them into outer space and experiment on them by forcing them to watch cheesy Sci-Fi films whose acting and scripts are incredibly bad. However, the commentary of the fearsome threesome as they watch these films is absolutely hilarious! Plus, they have weekly "technology exchanges" where they usually create silly experiments relating to the movie, and try them out on each other. This series is absolutely wonderful, and turns total cheese into a thing of beauty. They don't even know who their captors are. In his Orwellian prison, he has many important tasks at hand: Foremost is escape, however between attempts he must maintain his sanity and individuality in an atmosphere where all of his movements are monitored, and where he frequently suffers torture, brainwash, and re-capture by a menacing bouncing bubble! Space: 1999 - Watching this series can often be like watching MST3K. It's kinda cheesy, often more mystic than science, with crazy scripts and acting. However, I fondly remember watching the series in the 70s (well, what do you expect- I was six or so!) But it's still worth watching if you like "Star Trek on Acid" with great special effects, music, and a seventies clothes and hairstyles that'll always be out of fashion :-) The first season is definitely the best. Star Trek The Next Generation - The Complete Series - Finally, TNG is available in the form it was meant to be seen! In beautiful digital format, starting with episode one, and going straight through to the series finale! With all sorts of bonus materials, you can finally see what was going on in the mind of Gene Roddenberry and future directors of Trek episodes with commentary and behind-the-scenes specials! Of course, the first three seasons (while Gene was still around) don't quite measure up to the final four seasons, but there are still quite a few gems in the early days. (Who can resist watching Tasha Yar getting her well deserved death scene over and over :-) This is the best Trek series to date (although I really did enjoy Voyager as well.) Stargate SG-1 - The TV adaptation of the Stargate movie actually makes a very good series. Starting out on Showtime, it made it's way on to several other networks, most recently the Sci-Fi Channel. It takes the Stargate universe of humans spread throughout the galaxy by alien slavemasters and connected by a network of ancient Egyptian style "hyperspace" gates created by the aliens. This series extends the movie, and plays "what if" scenarios with other civilizations, aliens, and more. The characters are well developed, and the series has a good sense of humor built in to it, especially where the main character is concerned. He's got a smart-allec comment for just about any situation. The series are finally available on DVD, which is a great way to watch it.
