  • 2001: A Space Odyssey - 2001: A Space Odyssey - Arthur C. Clarke - Two astronauts find their journey into space and their very lives jeopardized by the insanity of an extraordinarily human computer named Hal, a mysterious monolith, and an encounter with a mysterious alien intelligence. • 2010: The Year We Make Contact - 2010: The Year We Make Contact - Who or what transformed Dave Bowman into the Star-Child? What alien purpose lay behind the monoliths on the Moon and out in space? What could drive HAL to kill the crew? Now all those questions and many more have been answered, in this stunning sequel to 2001. • Alien - Starring Sigourney Weaver - One of the scariest Sci-Fi movies ever! While investigating an alien spacecraft ditched on a dead planet, the crew of a space freighter picks up an uninvited passenger. This languid masterpiece of horror depicts a primal inter-species struggle for survival juxtaposed against a jungle of hyper-technology.
"Aliens," a cathartic sequel by James Cameron, was made in 1986. With 2 Academy Award Nominations, (one for Best Art Direction) it got one Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. There were two more incarnations (Alien^3 and Alien Resurrection) the last of which was co-directed by Sigourney Weaver, and very well done. I definitely recommend getting the entire series. First, for the discount, but secondly for all the extras such as Commentary by director Ridley Scott on Alien, Isolated musical score on a separate audio channel, Alternate music and production sound track, Deleted scenes, Artwork and photo galleries, Outtakes & more!

The Alien Quadrilogy (2003) - This 9-DVD set is the definitive ALIEN collection. It includes ALL FOUR DIRECTOR'S CUTS OF THE FILMS with an extra DVD of bonus pre prod., production & post prod. interviews, music, FX, amd more per film, and a bonus #9 DVD only available in this set. I hate to pay for the series all over again after buying The Alien Legacy (being the fan that I am), but may have no choice. Most of these versions are quite different from the theatrical releases, and tell a better story (especially for #3). So, if you really want the ultimate Alien experience, you're just going to have to get The Alien QuadrilogyBuy it from Amazon

  • Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) - If you don't think Austin Powers is one of the funniest movies of the 1990s, maybe you should be packed into a cryogenic time chamber and sent back to the decade whence you came. Perhaps it was the 1960s--the shagadelic decade when London hipster Austin Powers scored with gorgeous chicks as a fashion photographer by day, crime-fighting international man of mystery by night. Yeah, baby, yeah! But when Power's arch nemesis, Dr. Evil, puts himself into a deep-freeze and travels via time machine to the late 1990s, Powers must follow him and foil Evil's nefarious scheme of global domination. Mike Myers plays dual roles as Powers and Dr. Evil, with Elizabeth Hurley as his present-day sidekick and karate-kicking paramour. A hilarious spoof of '60s spy movies, this colorful comedy actually gets funnier with successive viewings, making it a perfect home video for gloomy days and randy nights. Oh, behave! • Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) - "I put the grrr in swinger, baby!" a randy Austin Powers coos near the beginning of The Spy Who Shagged Me. This friendly, go-for-broke sequel to 1997's Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery finds our man Austin heading back to the '60s to keep perennial nemesis Dr. Evil (Myers again) from blowing up the world--and, more importantly, to get back his mojo, that man-juice that turns Austin into irresistible catnip for women, especially American spygirl Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham). The plot may be irreverent and illogical, but it's all delivered sunnily and with tongue firmly in cheek.
